Introduction

Neston Community Association has come about because local people feel there is a need for an organisation to co-ordinate the community activities already going on in the area, as well as to encourage local people to get involved.
With this in mind, the Neston Market Town Initiative (NMTI) included setting up a community association in their original action plan. Funding for the set-up costs comes from the Fair Share Trust which is part of the Big Lottery. As Neston Community Association is concerned with volunteers and community activity, the NMTI asked EPNAVCO (Ellesmere Port and Neston Association of Voluntary and Community Organisations) to recruit and employ the Community Development Worker. This will continue until the community association comes into its own as an organisation. The community association and the NMTI enjoy a close working relationship to make sure opportunities are maximised and actions are carried out as agreed.
A group of local people and representatives of public bodies such as the police, fire & rescue service and elected members have come together to oversee the setting up of the community association and are known as the:
Interim Steering Group Members List

The first public meeting of the community association was held at end of September 2006 where local people voted for the Interim Steering Group to continue and gave the group the mandate to set up the community association on their behalf. People were also asked to complete application forms for membership of the Association; this is an important part of the Association’s work as it ensures, via the membership, that the activities it carries out are what its members feel are its priorities. Any resident in Neston and the surrounding area can join the Association at any time.
